The Surge

Energy moving through you, not at you.

Reality check

You think what is happening in your body is strange. You think the tingling and the tears and the involuntary movements mean something is going wrong.

Nothing is going wrong. Your nervous system is moving energy without the mind controlling the process. The tingling is blood chemistry. The tears are release. The unfamiliarity is just how long it has been since you let your body lead.

  • Keep breathing. Not a specific technique. Just keep air moving. Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth.
  • Let it move. If your hands tingle, let them. If tears come, let them. If laughter comes, let it.
  • Stay lying down or seated until it passes. The Surge can include lightheadedness and temporary motor changes.
  • Do not try to make it bigger. Pushing harder can push you past your window of tolerance.
  • Do not analyze what you are experiencing while you are experiencing it.
  • Do not panic if it feels unfamiliar. Tingling, temperature changes, involuntary movements are normal.

They chase it. The Surge is what brings people back to breathwork. But it cannot be manufactured on demand. Trying to force it produces frustration. Showing up consistently and letting go of the outcome is the only reliable approach.
