You should be feeling something. You cannot.

Reality check

You think the feelings are gone. You think you are just like this now. You think something fundamental has broken.

The feelings are not gone. They are behind a door your body locked for a reason it has not shared with you yet. The numbness is not permanent. It is a cast on a bone that is not done healing.

  • Hold something cold. An ice cube in your palm. A cold can on your wrist. Cold is a back door into sensation when the front door is locked.
  • Name three things you can physically feel right now. Fabric on skin. Temperature. Pressure of the floor. You are rebuilding sensation, not emotion.
  • Coherent breathing for 2 minutes. 5 in, 5 out. The goal is not to feel something dramatic. The goal is to register sensation at all.
  • Do not seek extreme experiences to feel something. The intensity wears off faster, requiring escalation.
  • Do not watch emotional content hoping it will trigger tears.
  • Do not tell yourself to be grateful. Guilt on top of emptiness deepens the disconnect.

They try to force feeling. But The Hollow is not an input problem. It is a safety problem. The nervous system turned down the emotional volume because feeling became too expensive. You rebuild safety through the body (sensation, cold, breath), not through the mind.
